International Relations

IR was one of the major areas addressed in the grant.  During three exchange visits of the Mason team to UoM, UoM hosted conferences related to preparation for joining the higher education system in Europe. These conferences gave the teams a common background to discuss  development and build ideas for future cooperation.

Accomplishments

1. "Memorandum of Understanding" was signed between the University of Montenegro and Mason in April 2007. It outlines future collaboration between the institutions. The signing was held in a Video Conference Center at Mason so that it was viewed at both universities.
   
2. New administrative/management structure is going through the approval process at the University of Montenegro for implementation in January 2008. The financial and student services areas have been centralized with databases designed and implemented.
   
3. Under the direction of Vice-Rector, Prof dr. Sreten Skuletic, the International Relations office has been fully developed and centralized for better service both internally and externally to the institution. It includes a new, comprehensive website .
   
4. Two new campuses have been established—one in Budva (south) and one in Bijelo Polje (north) with the support and participation of the cities and  study programs needed in those localities.
   
5. The University of Montenegro and George Mason University have benefitted by making new friendships.  We have furthered understanding of our university’s systems, our work, and our future visions.  We look forward to future cooperation and collaboration.
